Hopeful Hearts

Young Volunteers create fabric hearts to support the parent-baby bonding experience. An online article from the UC Davis Medical Center states “the first few days of life are believed to offer an optimum opportunity for bonding to take place. Even when babies are born ill or premature, the importance of bonding is recognized. Whenever possible, healthcare providers in intensive care units try to create opportunities for parents to spend time holding and caring for their babies.” The fabric hearts are included in the NICU Napsacks and parents are encouraged to wear them to infuse their scent onto the fabric. The hearts are then placed in bed with the baby. The hearts can also be placed with the baby and transferred to the mother to assist in milk production. The hearts promote bonding and infant development.

Pennant Banner

Use your crafting skills to create inspirational banners for our moms on hospital bed rest and the families in the NICU. We encourage all our families to decorate their rooms. The decorations soften the harsh interiors of the hospital rooms and can be personalized for every occasion. Each pennant banner provides inspirational phrases of encouragement.
